A friend of mine/arch-nemesis has drawn her father and father-in-law for this year’s Christmas celebration and demanded a Christmas gift guide for them.  While I am generally compliant towards requests from friends who have incriminating stories about me, this one is a hard one as I don’t have a relationship with my dad * and I don’t have a lot of use for my father-in-law so I am at a bit of a loss.  While I had to laugh at the label emotionally distant father , the problem with too many dads out there is that they don’t exactly excel at communicating what they want for Christmas.  If you have to shop for one, we feel for you.

Last week Apple made some new product announcements at an oddly-timed shutdown of the Apple store. The blogosphere and news outlets noticed early in the morning that the Apple Store had gone down for “updates,” and speculation ran rampant why the store was down as long as it was. There were no conferences, no special press events, just a vanishing store that was down for hours – Apple had something up its sleeve, but what? When the store came back up, the flurry of news rushed out to show off the myriad of new products that Apple had unveiled, most of which were available immediately.

A couple weeks ago, I got a new center channel speaker via Woot and while setting it up and readjusting my surround sound levels….I discovered that my rear speakers weren’t working. I’ve been using an Accurian HomePlug Digital Audio Transmitter/Receiver to run my rear speakers, and I have a remote controlled switch for the rear unit….which defaults to off when it loses power. But, I looked and it was one. I power cycled everything and checked all the connections, but nothing.

Wonder if the people at Xantrex or Amazon.com are wondering what’s with all the PowerSource 400s I’ve been buying? The latest acquisition brings the total to 5. With the latest being the 3rd unit in one room. Somewhere in a past shuffle/outage…I had lost a UPS (CPS700AVR), and lost a computer (box). I had rebuilt box, and as interim….put it on the PowerSource 400 that was backing up ‘lhaven’. I also put the 8-port [end] switch and my wireless access point onto this PowerSource 400.
